About Philip Deblitz

Philip is an accomplished event technician and lighting designer with a career spanning nearly two decades. After completing an apprenticeship as an event technician at Fraport AG in cooperation with Media Academy Berlin (August 2003 to January 2006), he has established himself as an expert in lighting design, technical consultation, and production management.


Philip’s journey in lighting design began during his time at The English Theatre Frankfurt (2007–2012), where he progressed from electrician to head electrician. During this period, he was responsible for designing and executing lighting concepts for numerous productions, including What the Butler Saw, Peter Pan, and Beauty and the Beast. His innovative approach to lighting enhanced storytelling and created immersive experiences for audiences.


From 2014 to 2016, Philip served as head technician at the University for Music and Performing Arts Frankfurt. Here, he further honed his skills in lighting design, integrating creative vision with technical precision. Since 2016, he has continued to contribute as a freelance head technician and lighting consultant for the university, supporting a variety of productions with cutting-edge designs.


Philip’s creative highlights include designing lighting and sets for Bodo Wartke’s celebrated productions, such as the “Wandelmut” tour (2020),“Antigone” (2018), as well as the film recordings of both projects and Bodo’s latest tour „Wunderpunkt“ (2024) . In October 2024, he contributed to the opera “The Time of Our Singing” in Brussels, delivering impactful lighting for an internationally acclaimed production.


In the field of dance, Philip has created lighting designs for Dancelab in Regensburg (2024) and several productions of Ballet of Difference by Richard Siegal, known for their innovative blend of contemporary dance and visual storytelling. His work in theater includes the lighting design for “Carmilla” at Theater Bern, a project that highlights his ability to craft evocative atmospheres for dramatic works.
His lighting work has been praised for its ability to complement and elevate the emotional tone of performances. In 2014, his expertise was recognized when he won the prestigious ETC design competition at Prolight and Sound.


Beyond theater and dance, Philip has lent his lighting expertise to large-scale events, including the Nibelungenfestspiele Worms and Ruhrtriennale. As a trainer and demo specialist for ETC GmbH since 2014, he has shared his knowledge of the EOS-Family lighting consoles with professionals across the industry.


Philip’s technical proficiency is a cornerstone of his success. He is highly skilled in operating lighting desks, including ETC EOS-Family. His ability to combine technical tools with artistic vision enables him to create impactful lighting designs. Proficient in design and production software such as Capture, Vectorworksand much more like Qlab, he brings a seamless blend of creativity and precision to every project.

Fluent in English, Philip thrives in international collaboration, bringing clear communication and a deep understanding of production needs to every team. His dedication to crafting innovative lighting designs, paired with his extensive technical expertise, makes him an invaluable asset to any creative production.
